The Pixel 9’s new weather app is like Dark Sky for Android – and you can try it right now

The Google Pixel 9 series is due to launch next week, and while we’ve already seen leaks around its design and specs, it’s also apparently going to come with a newly upgraded weather app – an app which you can try out right now, if you want to. As reported by Android Authority, the new and improved Weather app can now be sideloaded from APKMirror. It should work on devices running Android 14 or later, but as this isn’t yet the finished version of the app, expect some bugs and…

The Nintendo Switch is on track to outsell the PlayStation 2 in the US

The Nintendo Switch is likely to outsell the PlayStation 2 in terms of lifetime sales in the US. That’s according to Mat Piscatella, a  video game industry analyst at Circana. In a post to X / Twitter, Piscatella wrote: “In the US, PS5 is still 7% ahead of PS4 LTD and Switch is only 1.1M units behind PlayStation 2 in lifetime sales.” He adds that things aren’t looking too bad for Xbox Series consoles, either, saying they’re “holding close to Xbox 360’s LTD pace (and will get a CF25 boost).”…

How digital tools are set to transform mortgage application processes

The current mortgage process is challenging for all involved. For customers, purchasing a home is likely the biggest purchase they will make in their lifetime. The knock-on effect is that pressure on mortgage providers to deliver a smooth and supportive service is intense, with customer emotions often understandably heightened. With tech integrated into so many areas of the public’s lives, customers no longer have the patience for outdated processes and clunky systems.  It’s believed that mortgages were first available in Britain as early as the 12th century. The initial concept was…

The Umbrella Academy season 4 is a bittersweet but frustrating finale that proves the hit Netflix show is ending at the right time

Mild spoilers follow for The Umbrella Academy season 4. I’m a big fan of The Umbrella Academy. I’m sure that’s come across my articles about the franchise, but if it hasn’t, allow me to present evidence of my enthusiasm: I’ve read Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s wonderfully oddball graphic novels numerous times, and consumed all of the supplementary literature; I own a couple of Funko Pops (yes, I collect them, what of it?); and I even considered getting a ‘Brellie’ tattoo many years ago, which, considering that I’ve only been…

Reddit will use AI to summarize its insanely long threads and could transform the service

Reddit threads can be incredibly long, and sometimes it’s challenging to figure out what they’re really about, regardless of the title. Even searching for keywords can be hit or miss. The platform wants to help solve that issue and later this year plans to release a new AI-powered feature that will generate summaries at the top of search results.  The idea is straightforward: AI fueled by large language models is good at condensing and summarizing big chunks of text, like those filling Reddit threads. By making these summaries part of…

Google’s kid-friendly Fitbit Ace LTE just got a new feature that parents may not love

Google is rolling out an update to its kid-friendly Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatch with the goal to “foster independence and motivate movement” in young users.
